Xiqu (traditional Chinese opera), an invaluable treasure of millennia-old Chinese culture, carries profound traditional heritage. To promote fine traditional culture and bridge classical arts with young college students, Qin Sheng Elegant Arts Society of Xi’an University teamed up with Liyunan Opera Troupe for a Xiqu Entering Campus event at Xi’an Vocational University of Automobile. Featuring classic Yueju excerpts, the performance brought ancient artistic charm to campus, letting teachers and students appreciate the beauty of traditional opera up close and inject youthful vitality into time-honored performing arts.
On April 28, members from Qin Sheng Elegant Arts Society and Liyunan Opera Troupe staged Out of the Capital from the classic Yueju repertoire Pearl Pagoda at Xi’an Vocational University of Automobile. With melodious vocal tunes and graceful body movements, they presented an immersive feast of traditional Yueju art for faculty and students from multiple universities.
Out of the Capital, a famous Yueju highlight, fully conveys the protagonist’s ups and downs and embodies the unique charm of Yueju. Society members spent ample time polishing vocal skills and refining stage gestures. Dressed in exquisite costumes, they delivered a delicate and vivid onstage interpretation, enabling the entire audience to experience the distinctive artistic glamour of Yueju in person.
Using opera as a cultural medium and art as a bond of communication, this activity sowed seeds of traditional Chinese culture in young students’ hearts and demonstrated the positive role of university clubs in cultural inheritance and dissemination. Moving forward, Qin Sheng Elegant Arts Society will keep devoting itself to the inheritance of Xiqu, enabling traditional performing arts to thrive and embrace new vitality amid contemporary campus life.
