The School of Foreign Studies has a 44-year history of education and offers two undergraduate majors: English and Japanese. The English major includes three concentrations: English + Outstanding Teacher Education, English + Digital Cultural Tourism, and English + Cross‑border E‑commerce. The Japanese major offers two concentrations: Japanese + Data Intelligence and Japanese + International Exchange. The school currently has 733 students, 92 faculty members including 4 foreign experts, among whom are 9 professors, 27 associate professors and 19 PhD holders. Over 65% of the faculty have overseas academic experience. The school features nine modern classrooms and training centers, including the Smart Language Experiment Center and the Teacher Competence Training Workshop, fully equipped with smart teaching software and hardware to provide a high‑quality learning environment for students.
The English major is a Shaanxi Provincial First‑Class Major Development Site and has obtained the Ministry of Education’s Level 2 Teacher Education Accreditation. The Japanese major is a pilot major for the university’s transformation and development. English Language and Literature is a key supported discipline of Xi’an, and the College English Teaching Team has been recognized as a provincial‑level teaching team. Faculty and students have won more than 30 national awards and over 90 provincial awards in academic competitions.
Focusing on the two distinctive fields of basic education and international communication and translation, the school serves the regional development of Xi’an. It has successively organized training programs for Xi’an’s foreign affairs officials and English teachers, compiled the English Translation Specifications for Public Signs in Xi’an, and completed a number of foreign‑related projects entrusted by the Foreign Affairs Office and the Publicity Department of Xi’an Municipal Party Committee. These projects include the English translation of100 Cases of China’s Targeted Poverty Alleviationand the translation and dubbing for the English programDiscover Xi’anproduced by Xi’an Radio and Television Station. In the past five years, the school has obtained more than 70 vertical research projects at or above the municipal and departmental levels, and received 7 Outstanding Achievement Awards in Philosophy and Social Sciences at or above the municipal and departmental levels.
The school carries out “3+1” and “2+2” international cooperative programs with universities such as Michigan State University and Duquesne University in the United States, as well as Musashino University and Hokkaido University in Japan. Hundreds of students have pursued further studies or internships overseas. Graduates have been admitted to prestigious domestic and international universities, including Shanghai International Studies University, the University of Leeds (UK) and Hiroshima University (Japan), for postgraduate studies.Graduates alsowork in primary and secondary schools, educational institutions and high‑quality enterprises such as Huawei and Geely Auto Group, with a stable employment rate of over 90%.
