
TheTeachers’ college, formerly known as Shaanxi Xi’an Normal School, traces its origins back to the Guanzhong Academy founded in 1609 by Feng Congwu, a prominent scholar of the Ming Dynasty’s Guanzhong School of Confucianism. In 1903, it was renamed and restructured as Shaanxi Normal Academy, marking the beginning of modern teacher education in Shaanxi Province. Building on a century-old tradition ofnormaleducation, the school upholds the motto: “Virtue as the foremost, learning as a model for teachers, conduct as an example for the world.” Guided by the educational philosophy of “Honoring virtue and pursuing aesthetics, building deep knowledge and acting with diligence,” the school emphasizes the cultivation of applied talents.
The school currently offers three undergraduate programs: Primary Education, Applied Psychology, and Calligraphy, spanning two campuses—Gaoxin and Shuyuan. In 2024, it was approved to confer a Master of Education degree. The school has nearly one thousand enrolled students, including postgraduates, state-funded teacher education students, students in the ICC international cooperation program, regular undergraduates, andassociate-to-bachelorprogram students.
The schoolis well-equipped with outstandingteachingstaff, comprising 66 staff members and 52 full-timeteachers, including 12 professors and 26 doctoral degree holders; faculty with master’s or doctoral degrees account for 98% of the full-time teaching staff. There are 17 master’s supervisors, 23dual-qualification teachers (i.e., both academic and professional credentials), and over 20 renowned domestic experts hired as adjunct professors. The facultyis composed ofdistinguished educators, including provincial teaching masters, Sanqin Teaching Leading Talents, outstanding young talents, and experts in the National Training Program for teachers.
In recent years, the school has been awarded 11 national- and provincial-level first-class courses. Its faculty has led more than 10 national-level research projects and 81 provincial-level projects, won 22 provincial teaching and research achievement awards, published over 200 high-impact academic papers, and produced more than 20 books and textbooks. The schoolis equipped withover 20 specialized laboratory and training rooms on campus, and has established off-campus internship bases at more than 50 high-quality primary and secondary schools and institutions. Serving local educational development, the school has undertaken a number of major provincial education events, teacher training programs, calligraphy study tours, and established long-term partnerships with multiple local education authorities, schools, and enterprises.
