I. About the School
The School of Physical Education at Xi'an University traces its origins to the Physical Education Section of Xi'an Teachers College, founded in 1959. The Physical Education undergraduate program was launched in 2003, and the School began co-cultivating master's students in 2015. In 2024, the program successfully passed the Ministry of Education's Level-II Accreditation for Teacher Education Programs. It is now a first-class program at the municipal level and the first undergraduate program in Shaanxi Province enrolling students through vocational education independent recruitment. The School has 43 full-time faculty members, including 5 professors, 1 senior engineer, 15 associate professors, 34 with master's degrees or above, and 20 dual-qualified teachers. Two renowned sports experts have been flexibly recruited.
II. Program Strengths
The School has established a signature "Four-in-One" training model integrating theoretical excellence, athletic proficiency, practical competence, and professional integrity. Leveraging its accredited teacher education program, the School offers core theoretical courses including School Physical Education, Sports Anatomy, and Sports Physiology. Practical courses cover more than 20 sports including track and field, ball games, martial arts, swimming, fencing, and rope skipping. The "Sports for Education, Training for Learning" practice model integrates semester-based practicum, concentrated internships, event officiating, and sports teaching support. With 20 high-quality educational internship bases, students receive immersive teaching practice throughout their studies. Our students have won numerous awards in national teaching skill competitions and national-level sports events.
III. Facilities and Research
The School houses the Collaborative Innovation Research Center for Integration of Sports and Education and the digital research team for sports and health. Over the past five years, faculty members have secured more than 170 research projects with total funding exceeding 8 million RMB, and published over 20 high-level academic papers. The School is well-equipped with modern indoor and outdoor sports facilities, digital sports and health laboratories, and multiple professional training venues that fully support teaching, training, and research activities.
IV. Social Service and Impact
The School actively serves local education and sports development needs. It serves as the Training Base for Competitive Sports Reserve Talents of Xi'an and the primary venue for physical education teacher training in the Xi'an education system. In 2025, the School joined the Belt and Road Sports Education Alliance and was elected as Vice-Chairman Unit, enhancing its international profile and regional influence. The graduate employment rate has remained above 90% for consecutive years. Our graduates work across basic education, sports training, and public sports services. The School has cultivated and delivered a large number of high-quality applied talents for the physical education sector.
