The history of art and design education at the School of Arts and Design dates back to 1909, when art courses were first offered at Shaanxi Normal School. Today, the School of Arts and Design comprises three academic departments: Visual Communication Design, Fine Arts, and Digital Media Art. It boasts four major practical teaching facilities: the exclusive overseas branch of the world-renowned French printmaking studio Atelier Contrepoint, an External Exchange and Exhibition Center, a Documentary Creation Base, and a Cultural and Creative Product R&D Center. Additionally, the Art Museum operates under the administration of the School. Our academic excellence is well recognized. In 2020, the discipline of "Art Theory" was approved as a municipal-level first-class discipline. In 2023, the School was selected to establish an "Industry-Education Integration Training Center" under the National Development and Reform Commission's 14th Five-Year Plan. It also launched the "ICC International Creative Course Project" approved by the Provincial Department of Education and was designated as a university-level interdisciplinary unit. In 2024, it proudly became the host of the university's inaugural "Experimental Class for Innovative Talent Cultivation."

The School is equipped with outstanding physical infrastructure, with all key indicators surpassing those of peer institutions in the province. Covering a total area of 5,292.4 square meters (averaging 5.72 square meters per student), it houses 11 professional laboratories, studios, and training rooms. The dedicated teaching and laboratory space spans 4,495.9 square meters. The School features two university-level key laboratories: the Ceramics Key Laboratory and the Cultural and Creative Product R&D Center. Furthermore, professional exhibition halls and an innovation and entrepreneurship center covering over 1,100 square meters, alongside a comprehensive art venue of 1,396 square meters, provide solid support for high-quality education.

Pioneering initiatives—such as the ICC International Creative Course Project, the interdisciplinary program for the "Protection and Digital Communication of Guanzhong Intangible Cultural Heritage," and the Innovative Experimental Class—provide students with abundant academic resources. These programs actively encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and foster innovative thinking and problem-solving skills. By offering highly diversified learning opportunities, we aim to unlock students' creative potential and nurture well-rounded professionals in art and design.

Guided by the fundamental educational mission of fostering virtue through education, the School actively supports the university's goal of building a "high-level, application-oriented urban university with distinctive characteristics" by promoting university-city integration. Over the past three years, the School has forged robust partnerships and internship agreements with 48 enterprises and organizations. We actively engage in community service through platforms like the Lantian High-Quality Development Practice Research Institute and the Rural Revitalization Art and Design Practice Research Center. Under teachers guidance, our students have achieved remarkable success in various academic, innovation, and entrepreneurship competitions, securing 16 national awards, over 300 provincial awards, and undertaking more than 30 college student innovation projects. These achievements underscore our commitment to elevating academic excellence while actively serving society.
