The School of Music at Xi’an University was founded in 1983 and is among the first higher education institutions in Shaanxi Province to establish a music major. For over four decades, the School has been dedicated to cultivating talent through the arts. Rooted in Xi’an, serving Shaanxi, and radiating across Northwest China, the School upholds the educational philosophy of “cultivating virtue through art and enriching Chang’an through music.” Closely aligned with the national strategy of building a culturally strong country and the needs of regional cultural development, it has established a talent training system characterized by a solid foundation, practice-oriented empowerment, and innovation-driven development, supporting students in pursuing their musical aspirations within the cultural heritage of Chang’an.

The School offers an undergraduate program in Musicology, which was approved in 2018 as a First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in Xi’an. Its overall strength ranks among the top of similar institutions within the province. The program features three distinctive tracks:

The teacher education trackfocuses on music teaching in primary and secondary schools, integrating the inheritance of local musical culture, and aims to cultivate qualified music teachers and key contributors to aesthetic education.

The non-teacher trackaligns with the cultural tourism and music industries, aiming to develop practice-oriented and application-focused talents.

The ICC program, leveraging the advantages of the Belt and Road Initiative, cultivates interdisciplinary talents with an international perspective and provides pathways for further study abroad.

The School has a strong faculty, with a total of 50 staff members, including 41 full-time teachers. Over 40% hold senior professional titles, and 92% possess master’s degrees or above. Many faculty members serve as council members of various art associations and as judges in professional competitions. The School is equipped with comprehensive teaching facilities and well-developed training spaces, supporting students in enhancing their practical abilities.

The quality of education has been widely recognized. The first-choice application rate has remained at 100% for four consecutive years, and the graduate employment rate has consistently exceeded 91%, with employment spanning fields such as arts education and cultural tourism performance. The School adheres to an open education approach, maintaining in-depth cooperation with well-known art institutions in multiple countries and regularly organizing international exchange programs to broaden students’ artistic horizons. Students with a passion for music are warmly welcomed to apply and develop their skills while realizing their artistic potential here.
