　　Launch Ceremony of Spotting Bad English Public Signs in Xi'an  themed "Love Xi 'an, Embrace the World" was unveiled at Xi'an University on the morning of March 25, jointly sponsored by Publicity Department of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC, Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC, and Xi'an Municipal Bureau of Education, and undertaken by Xi’an University.

　　The theme of the event is "Love Xi'an · Embrace the world", and the slogan is "Better Signs, Easier Life". At the ceremony, a publicity video about the construction of Xi'an international language environment was played, and a Wechat Mini Program, "Taking Pictures", was officially rolled out to spot bad English public signs in Xi'an. An Agreement on the Three-year Action Plan for Spotting Bad English Public Signs in Xi'an was signed by Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC and Xi 'an University, and the letters of appointment were issued to the representatives of Chinese and foreign English experts and consultants.

　　In recent years, Xi'an University has concentrated on building itself into a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive characteristics, aiming to build a "university thatknows best of Xi'an city”. Besides, on the basis of "Seven Five" working mechanism, our university adheres to the principle of "Keep a foothold in Xi'an, serve Xi'an and rely on Xi'an", gives full play to the advantages of the university's think tanks and disciplines, serves the needs of local economic and social development, which boosts the integrated development of the university and the city, and contributes to the high-quality development of economy and society of Xi'an.

　　Signage in public places is not only the cultural visiting card of a city, but also an important window for international friends to know the city, reflecting the refinement and internationalization of city management. Focusing on "Language service and international communication", the School of Foreign Studies acts as an active participant and service provider in the process of optimization and improvement of Xi'an international language environment.

　　In May 2021, compiled by the School of Foreign Studies, the Guidelines for the use of English in Public Placesof Xi'an were approved by Xi'an Municipal Administration for Market Regulation, publicly announced and officially implemented. In order to continuously deepen cooperation and promote the construction of Xi'an international language environment, Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC entrusted the School of Foreign Studies of Xi'an University with setting up a brain-trust composed of 26 experts at home and abroad, and developed an online platform to correct errors of foreign language signs in Xi'an.

　　The Three-year Action Plan for Spotting Bad English Public Signs in Xi'an has been launched and implemented through the combination mechanism of online and offline, extensive involvement of the public and college students, whole-process guidance of the expert team, and collaborative interaction of foreign language signs error correction.

　　The regular development of English sign correction activity is an important measure to further optimize Xi'an international language environment and boost the building ofbeautiful Xi 'an, promoting the integration of the universityand the city, and elevating the cooperation between the university and the government to a new height.

Ma Hongbin, first-class researcher of Publicity Department of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC andLi Le, Deputy General Manager of Operating Branch of Xi’an Rail Transit Group Co.,Ltd. attended the signing ceremony with representatives from relevant departments of the Xi'an Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Xi'an Municipal People's Government, representatives from various districts, counties, Xixian New Area, and development zones, as well as representatives from relevant departments of Xi’an University, schools' principles, teachers and students.
