The commencement ceremony and bachelor degree awarding ceremony for graduates of 2014 were held grandly in the hall of our university on the morning of July 5. In the melody of Ave Maria of violin solo, all the leaders of the university wearing the principal uniforms and 13 deans of secondary schools wearing tutor uniforms stepped on the stage and took their seats, and totally about 1100 teachers and students participated this commencement ceremony. This ceremony opened with the national anthem. Till June 30, 2014, there were 3464 graduate of 2014, including 2892 undergraduates and 572 junior college graduates. For undergraduate, the graduation rate was 99.17%, degree awarding rate was 96.27%, and employment rate was 89.42%, and for junior college, the graduation rate was 99.48%, and the employment rate was 88.11%.
Lei Yingjie, the secretary of the Party committee, and Xu Kewei, the president, and all leaders of the university respectively awarded the representative of graduates of 2014 having passed the postgraduate exams, representative of graduates of 2014 gaining the title of merit student, outstanding student leader and excellent student, and representative of graduates obtaining employment at basic level.
The representative of graduates, Du Le of Class 2 Grade 2010 of the school of art, and the representative of schoolmates, Wang Jinfeng, a graduate of accounting major of Grade 1983 of Xi'an University spoke respectively, expressing their love and gratefulness to the school.
The president, Xu Kewei, made a speech, representing all staffs and students of the university to express heartfelt congratulation to the 3464 graduates of 2014; during the speech, he reviewed development of our university in recent years: "After four years of learning, living and toughening, you bid farewell to immature and sentimental state, harvest knowledge and culture in the university, and welcome the mature and steady state to step into the society. Your excellent performances in the university are unforgettable: in autumn of 2011, to welcome conformity assessment from the Ministry of Education, you faced lots of difficulties and challenges just as I did, but you and I defeated ourselves, won the respect, acquired good reputation, and made our own contribution to the assessment of our university. In spring of 2014, when the rumor "local colleges and universities will be transformed into vocational colleges" arose, it was you who playing Microblog and WeChat, express your opinion on line spontaneously and spread the positive energy for transformation and development of universities so as to end the rumor. So, the development of our university is based on your powerful support, and every little progress of the university is integrated with your zeal of loving the university as home. Here, I would express the most sincere thanks to you, thank you for leaving your best time of youth here and enriching our memories."
In the speech, President Xu put forward his hopes for all the graduates who would step into the society soon: first, he requires that after stepping into the society, no matter doing what kind of job, graduates must have dream, though the road to realize the dream is tough, though the dream cannot always bring you honor, dream makes people outstanding. Then, he hopes all the graduates be constantly practical, and practically walk out a wonderful life. At last, he indicates that hard work of today determines beauty of life of tomorrow, so he hopes every graduate move from now on, to find, to seek, to create, and to gain the wonderful future.
President Xu Kewei turned tassels for 50 student representatives obtaining the bachelor degrees, and awarded the degrees to them.
It is reported that, after the commencement ceremony, all secondary schools would hold the commencement ceremony and bachelor degree awarding ceremony in the following three days to bid farewell to the graduates of 2014 of our university.
