School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering was founded in 2015, which was originated from the Physical Department of Xi’an Normal College and the Mechanical and Electrical Department of Xi’an College. The former department was founded in 1958 and the latter 1980. The school offers 8bachelor’s degree programs, i.e. Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Material Science and Engineering, Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument, Physics, Applied Physics, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Robert Engineering. The school has 1 provincial Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Experimental and Training Center , 1 provincial Key Lab of Surface Engineering and Remanufacturing, 1 provincial key discipline of atomic and molecular physics, 1provincial priority support discipline of mechanical engineering, 1 provincial first-class orientation major, 1 priority building major and 1 comprehensive reform pilot major of Xi’an U. Shaanxi Nanotechnology Society is affiliated to this school.

　　The school currently has 1383 students, 87 staff, among whom there are 59 teachers, 10 professors, 21 associate professors, 24 doctors and 23 masters. Science research programs cover 3 programs of National Nature Science Foundation of China, 56 provincial, municipal and other level programs, 12 horizontal programs. In recent 5 years, over 40 national patent authorizations have been obtained, over 10 volumes of textbooks have been compiled, over 400 research papers have been published, over 100 papers among them were retrieved by SCI or EI. This school hasalso won many outstanding awards including the First prize(1 project) ,the Second Prize(1 project), the Third Prize(3 projects) for Municipal Scientific and Technological Awards and the Third Prize (1 project) for Provincial Education Department Scientific and Technological Awards.
